The Goetheschule (GS) is a primary school in Darmstadt . The school was named after the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
Architecture and history
The Goetheschule is a three-storey, late classicist clinker brick building that dominates the street section . The school building from the years 1885/1886 was built according to plans by city architect Stephan Braden. In its classic proportions , the building is reminiscent of Schinkel's Berlin Building Academy . The ground floor is set off from the upper floors in color and with a strong cornice . The large lattice windows have a segment or round arch finish . The facade is not plastered . The flat sloping slate roof has a protruding console cornice.

The Goethe School , housed in the postwar temporarily the tax authorities, a police station, the public library and the Electoral Office.

The Goetheschule is because of architectural quality and as a typical example of the architecture of the 1880s in Darmstadt under monument protection .
