Goffredo Cappa

Goffredo Cappa or Capa , also Gioffredo Cappa or Latinized Jofredus Cappa (* 1644 in Saluzzo , Italy ; † 1717 in Turin , Italy), was an Italian violin maker whose workshop also includes violas and cellos .

Life

After working in the Amati family's workshop in Cremona , Cappa set up his own business in his hometown of Saluzzo. Today he is considered to be the founder of the violin making tradition in Piedmont . His brothers Gioacchino and Giuseppe also worked in his workshop. Violin makers such as Spirito Sorsana and G. Francesco Celoniato were among his students .
