Goha is a French-Tunisian film by the director Jacques Baratier from 1958. It was shown in particular at the Cannes Film Festival , where it received the Un certain regard award and made the actor Omar Sharif known. In Goha also had Claudia Cardinale her first film appearance. The script is based on the novel Le Livre de Goha le simple by Albert Adès and Albert Josipovici .

Goha lives in Tunisia, popular with everyone. A wise man lives in his neighborhood who one day marries the beautiful Fulla. After a while, Fulla and Goha fall in love, whereupon Fulla is rejected by her husband and Goha has to leave the city with disgrace and shame. Fulla's husband follows Goha and forgives him. In view of this generosity, Goha commits suicide.

Reviews

Georges Sadoul writes in the Dictionary of Films that Baratier's version of the story is "charming and poetic". The portrayal of Goha by Omar Sharif is "touching".
