List of rose varieties

The rose variety 'Golden Wings' is a light yellow, frequently blooming modern shrub rose of the rose genus Pimpinellifolia - hybrids , which was bred by the American botanist and author Roy E. Shepherd and introduced to the American market in 1956 by the Bosley Nursery . The rose was created by crossing an unnamed, unpatented variety of the tea hybrid 'Soeur Therese' with a pollen from a Rosa spinosissima .

The rose variety has received numerous awards, including the gold medal at the American Rose Society Show in 1958 and the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993 .

education

The rose variety 'Golden Wings' forms a tall, widely spreading shrub with arched overhanging shoots. The rose plant becomes 100 to 200 centimeters high and 120 to 185 centimeters wide.

The long, pointed buds open into flowers of 4 to 8 petals and form a simple, bowl-shaped to plate-shaped flower in the middle of which the characteristic orange to bronze-colored stamens become visible. The unfilled flower shape makes an excellent bee pasture . The lemon-yellow flowers have a strong, sulfur-yellow base. The color will fade at high temperatures. The flowers reach a size of 7 to 10 cm and are characterized by a mild wild rose scent. Large orange-red rose hips appear in autumn . The rose variety 'Golden Wings' has light to medium green, matt to slightly shiny foliage.

The heat-tolerant remontant rose is extremely hardy ( USDA climate zone 4b and warmer) and loves sunny locations. However, it also thrives in partial shade and on poorer soils. 'Golden Wings' flowers very early and then persistently from the beginning of June to the end of October and is largely resistant to the well-known rose diseases .

The rose variety 'Golden Wings' is suitable both as a specimen plant and as a group plant in mixed borders , as a background plant on walls and as a dog rose.

The rose cultivar 'Golden Wings' is in many Rosarien to find and rose gardens, including the Europarosarium Sangerhausen , in German Rosarium Dortmund , on the island of Mainau , on Rose Island in the mountain park Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe , the Rosarium Uetersen , in the Rose Park Reinhausen, in the Rose Garden Luttum, in the garden of Alnwick Castle , in the Parc de Bagatelle , in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, in the Carla Fineschi Foundation Rose Garden and in the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden.
