The documentary was made with the support of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg Film Fund, the Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film Fund , the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation , the German Film Fund and the DEFA Film Foundation ( DEFA Foundation ).

After some discrepancy, the original director withdrew his name. The film was made by the film company zero one film in coproduction with SWR , NDR and MDR .

The documentary was shown in the cinema before it was shown on television. It was released on DVD on October 11, 2013.
