The Goliath F 200 and F 400 were three-wheeled vans from the Hansa-Lloyd- and Goliath-Werke Borgward & Tecklenborg in Bremen-Hastedt , which were sold under the Goliath brand. They were based on the three-wheel Goliath Pioneer with a closed cab.
Unlike the pioneer, a small car, the rear of the F 200 / F 400 had a flatbed or box. The rear axle, suspended from leaf springs, was placed further back under the superstructure, and the engine was installed under the bench at an angle of 90 ° lengthways. The front wheel was guided on a single swing arm. The body had a rigidly attached, backward-sloping front hood, individual headlights and, unlike the Goliath Pioneer, no vertical, but a slightly backward-sloping windshield. The tank was under the bonnet above the front wheel.
The top speed of the F 400 was 50 km / h. It was achieved with an air-cooled two-cylinder two-stroke engine with 12 to 13.6 HP from a 396 cm³ displacement (bore 60 mm, stroke 70 mm). The dead weight of the vehicle was according to the nameplate 640 kg, the payload according to other sources 500 kg or 750 kg. Carl FW Borgward had applied for a patent for the suspension of the front wheel in 1936. The patent was not granted until 1940.
The structurally identical F 200 was motorized with a 198 cm³ single cylinder engine and 6 HP less. The rear wheels of both models were driven via a three-speed gearbox with center shift and a cardan shaft. For a short time the F 200 and F 400 were market leaders in this segment with a total of 18,368 vehicles built.
The predecessor of both models was the Goliath Rapid / Standard , an open load cart in which the driver sat behind the load.
Goliath FW 200 / FW 400
The vehicles were only produced between 1938 and 1939. The FW 200 could load up to 500 kg, the FW 400 up to 750 kg. It was not until 1949 that the Goliath GD 750 was again produced as a cargo tricycle .
