The Hansa Trumpf-Aß is a luxury vehicle from the Hansa-Lloyd works in Bremen-Hastedt and Varel .
history
In autumn 1923, Hansa-Lloyd presented the Trumph-Aß 16/80 PS as a prototype. At the time, it would have been the first German car with an eight-cylinder engine had it been mass-produced at that time. It had an engine with a block made of aluminum , the overhead camshaft of which was driven by a vertical shaft. It was one of the first cars in Germany to offer left-hand drive and brakes for all 4 wheels. The new prototype was not shown at the Berlin Motor Show in December 1924.
The Trumpf-Aß was not produced in series until 1926, as a model 18/100 HP and only in small numbers. In this way, Horch had anticipated the Hansa-Lloyd works in building the first German series eight-cylinder engine.
In 1927 the 20/100 PS model with an enlarged engine replaced the 18/100 PS. In 1928 and again in 1929 the wheelbase grew by 90 mm and 110 mm, respectively. In 1930 Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward , who had meanwhile bought the ailing Hansa-Lloyd, had the production of the large eight-cylinder stopped without replacement. Vehicles that had not been sold until then were sold as Hansa Imperator in 1931 .
Engine, transmission and chassis
The car initially had an eight-cylinder in-line engine of its own design with an output of 74 kW (100 hp) at 3000 rpm. With a bore of 80 mm and a stroke of 115 mm, it had a displacement of 4640 cm³. The hanging valves were operated by an overhead camshaft via rocker arms, which in turn was driven by a vertical shaft.
The larger engines of the successors from 1927 had a displacement of 5220 cm³ (bore × stroke = 85 mm × 115 mm) and offered the same performance as their predecessor. These engines were also equipped with overhead valves, overhead camshafts and vertical shafts.
The top speed of the Trumpf-Aß 18/100 PS was 110 km / h, the successors reached 120 km / h.
All models had unsynchronized three-speed transmissions with a gear lever in the middle of the car (stick shift). The rear wheels were driven.
Both axles of all Trumpf-Aß were rigid axles on semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs, those of the rear axle were mounted from below on the axle bridge ( Underslung ). The service brake worked mechanically on all four wheels, the handbrake on the rear wheels. The cars were equipped with grease nipples .
Bodies
All Trumpf-Aß were available as seven-seat touring cars (from Karmann ), four-door Pullman sedans or four-door convertibles; the doors were hung at the front. All the bodies had a vertical radiator grille between the individual headlights and a vertical windshield .
