The Borgward B 3000 was a truck of the German Carl FW Borgward GmbH , which was produced from 1941 to 1944 in Bremen-Sebaldsbrück . After the Second World War, further B 3000s were manufactured from July 1948 to 1950. It was also produced as an electric vehicle under the names Borgward BE3000 and Lloyd EL3000 .

Standard truck 3 t

In 1937 Borgward began producing trucks and delivered vehicles with payloads of up to 5 t until the outbreak of war in 1939 , including the 3-ton Borgward G. W. with gasoline or diesel engines.

Most of the trucks were drafted by the Wehrmacht . Initially, production of the previous truck program continued. However, like the other truck manufacturers, Borgward was instructed from 1940 to limit the variety of types and to concentrate on the production of standard trucks with a payload of approx. 3 t and simplified equipment.

The successor model from 1942 onwards was the 3-ton truck with the official name Borgward B 3000 S / O with a 3.7-liter gasoline engine and 78 hp or the Borgward B 3000 S / D with a 5-liter diesel engine and 75 hp, both six-cylinder, off the production line. The all-wheel drive version was also given the designation A. In the course of further savings in material and raw materials, the design of the trucks was increasingly simplified - the Borgward trademark, the diamond on the radiator grille , was omitted and the standard driver's cab made of wood was added instead of the sheet steel cab .

The B 3000 proved itself in use, but the lighter Opel Blitz , a 3-ton truck from the competitor Opel, proved to be superior.

In addition to trucks, Borgward also produced other military vehicles, including above all half-chain tractors , armored personnel carriers and load carriers . A total of around 30,000 3-ton trucks were built - in 1944 also with the use of forced labor - until the plant was destroyed by Allied bombing in October 1944. Plans to restart production in order to produce the Opel “Blitz” there were no longer implemented because Bremen was captured by British troops in April 1945.
