Resting place for migratory birds |
The Gombether See is an artificial lake southwest of Gombeth , a district of Borken , and northeast of the core town of Borken in the Schwalm-Eder district in Hesse , Germany . It is located in the West Hessian depression and is an important resting place for migratory birds .
The lake is in the process of being created in the course of the lignite mining in the Borken lignite mining area, which has now been completed, and should reach its planned area of around 80 ha in 2028 . It will be 18 to 20 meters deep and hold 16 million cubic meters of water. It emerged from the former lignite opencast mine "Grube Gombeth" and has been created in the course of recultivation since 1988 through the inflow of groundwater and rainwater.
