Gondia , also Gondiya , is a city in the state of Maharashtra in western India . It is the administrative seat of the Gondia district of the same name . Gondia is administered as a Municipal Council. It is 950 kilometers from Gondia to Mumbai . Gondia is very close to the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and is considered the gateway to Maharashtra from central and eastern India. The Municipal Council Gondia was founded in 1920.

Demographics

The city's population is 132,813 according to the 2011 census. Gondia has a gender ratio of 997 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 93.3% in 2011. Almost 76.2% of the population are Hindus , approx. 13.8% are Buddhists , approx. 7.5% are Muslims , approx. 0.8% are Sikhs , approx 0.7% are Jainas , 0.5% are Christians and about 0.6% belong to other or no religions. 9.9% of the population are children under six years of age.

Infrastructure

Gondia Junction station is part of the Central Railway Division of Indian Railways . It is located on the Haora to Mumbai route .

The Gondia Airport is located near the village Kamtha, 12 km from Gondia removed. This runway was built by the British in 1940 during World War II.
