Google Home is one of Google -developed smart home - Speaker ( Smart Speaker ) connected via microphones features and users to Google Assistant , a personal digital assistant provides.
The device presented with the Google Assistant on May 18, 2016 at Google I / O has been offered in the United States since November 4, 2016 . A German voice and a commercially available version of Google Home have been available since August 8, 2017. The activation words are “Okay Google” and “Hey Google”. In 2019 the product Google Home was renamed "Google Nest".
Functions
Google Home makes functions of the in-house intelligent personal assistant Google Assistant available to the user . With voice commands you have questions or commands to Google Home can convey that tries to answer the device or implement. It deals with general questions such as "How many stars are there in our galaxy?" As well as commands with which one starts a music playlist or regulates the light in the house. Third-party providers can integrate services into Google Home via the developer platform “Actions on Google”.
With two microphones in the loudspeaker and the “ Far-field voice recognition” technology, the device should also recognize commands spoken in other rooms. A detachable housing allows the device to be designed with an individual color.

All ambient noises are analyzed at all times so that the device can recognize spoken requests. In principle, the storage should be limited to the last few seconds and remain in the recording device. If the device detects the activation words in cached recordings, the recordings of the last few seconds and the following commands are sent to Google's server for processing. There, the transcriptions of the conversations with the device and optionally audio recordings are stored in the Google account of the corresponding user. The microphones can be switched off with a button. Since one user proved that the storage was carried out continuously without activating "OK, Google" or Hey Google "and that monitoring was possible, Google admitted in August 2020 that this storage inadvertently recorded all conversations of all users through a software update.

criticism
It was criticized that the device in the "My Day" function, which gives an overview of personal events during the day, played advertisements for the 2017 film Beauty and the Beast .
