Goose Green is a place on the Lafonia Peninsula in East Falkland .
The place had 40 inhabitants as of the 2012 census and is the second largest settlement on the Falkland Islands . It is located 3.2 kilometers south of Darwin on the isthmus of the island on Choiseul Sound . It was founded in 1875 as a production facility for tallow and was the scene of a battle during the Falklands War in 1982 . The Goose Green farm, where sheep is raised and raised, covers 1700 square kilometers.
The 1982 battle
In the village hall of Goose Green, the Argentine army interned about one hundred civilians who had brought themselves to safety from Stanley .
On May 28, 1982, the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment under Lt. Col. Herbert Jones attacked an Argentine unit to gain access to Lafonia. The fight ended with a victory for the British and around 1,000 Argentine prisoners of war the following day.
