Gordon Kimball

Gordon Kimball (born July 24, 1952 in Ventura , California ) is an American engineer and former racing car designer in Formula 1 .

Kimball studied mechanical engineering at Stanford University . After graduating with a Master of Science degree in 1975, he worked for Parnelli in Formula 5000 . At the end of 1976 he switched to the development department there.

In 1978 Kimball went to England to develop the 2K with John Barnard at Chaparral . He then worked as an engineer for oil rigs for two years . At the end of 1980 he returned to motorsport as chief engineer for the Patrick Racing Indycar team .

In 1984 he accepted an offer from McLaren for Formula 1, where he again worked at the side of John Barnard. With this he moved to Ferrari in 1988 , but came back to McLaren in 1990 as a race engineer from Ayrton Senna . Only a short time later, he moved to the Benetton team as Technical Director . After Tom Walkinshaw took over the team and Kimball was replaced by Ross Brawn , he went back to the United States, where he started his own consultancy.
