Gordon Wiles

Gordon Warren Wiles (born October 10, 1904 in Jerseyville , Illinois , † October 17, 1950 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film director , art director and production designer who received the Oscar for best production design at the Academy Awards in 1932 .

biography

Wiles began in the early 1930s as an art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry and was awarded the Oscar for best production design for his debut Transatlantic (1931) at the 1932 Academy Awards. During his career he was responsible for the production design of 17 films, including the war drama Commandos Strike at Dawn .

In the mid-1930s he also worked as a director and made a total of eleven films such as his debut film Rosa de Francia (1935) with Rosita Díaz Gimeno , Charlie Chan's Secret (1936) with Warner Oland as Charlie Chan , Mr. Boggs Steps Out (1938) with Stuart Erwin and Helen Chandler , Prison Train (1938) with Fred Keating and Linda Winters, and The Gangster (1947) with Barry Sullivan and Belita .
