history

In 1425 the church of St. Mary was built in the village. In 1611 the church was acquired by the Roman Catholic order of the Jesuits who came from Zagreb . After the Greek-Catholic Eparchy Marča expired and the Greek-Catholic diocese was temporarily moved to Pribić , in 1783 the church and the property belonging to it became the third bishop's seat of the bishops of the Greek-Catholic Church in what is now Croatia . In 1777 the bishopric moves to Križevci (Croatia) ( Diocese of Križevci ). Furthermore, there is a castle in Gornji Tkalec, which was built in the art style of the early baroque . Part of the castle is the chapel (church building) of St. Mary. It contains baroque altars , pictures , and flags . The associated sacristy houses the preserved tomb of the Greek Catholic Bishop Bazilije Božičović from 1785.
