Goswin von Orsoy (also: Georg Orsov, Orsy, Orssoy ; around 1450 in Wesel ; † summer 1515 in Lichtenberg ) was a German theologian, politician and first chancellor of the University of Wittenberg .

Life

Orsoy is recorded for the first time in 1467 when he started studying the liberal arts at the University of Cologne . In 1474 he entered the Antonite monastery in Höchst and from 1483 resided as General President of the Antonite Order in the Lichtenbergk house near Prettin . On June 28, 1485 he paid the Florentine bank of Bini 190 guilders for his commission from the Antoniter Preceptorei in Höchst , which at that time belonged to the Diocese of Mainz , of which he was also the Preceptor .

In addition, he had become electoral councilor of Frederick the Wise and was the first chancellor of the University of Wittenberg to enter the register of the newly founded university after the founding rector Martin Pollich . However, he did not do much in this capacity, as the Vice Chancellor Pollich performed most of his duties and represented him in his functions, for example in disputations. He was succeeded by Wolfgang Reissenbusch . In addition, a one-day print is known of him.
