In 1441, the Antoniterkloster , which had previously been located in Roßdorf near Hanau, moved to Höchst at the invitation of the Archbishop of Kurmainz , Dietrich Schenk, from Erbach . The invitation was granted considerable privileges. The Antonites took over the Justinuskirche , which was the highest parish church, and the former Albanus monastery as well as tax-free all associated income from benefices and privileges. The monastery’s goods requirements could be imported duty-free. The Justinuskirche was extended to the east by a Gothic high choir, followed by the monastery complex with residential and farm buildings.

As part of the secularization of 1803, the Antoniterkloster Höchst was dissolved. As early as October 1802, Höchst was transferred to the Duchy of Nassau in anticipation of the secularization of Kurmainz . The Antonite monastery was expropriated three months later and the four religious who were still living there moved into a house in Höchst. Between 1803 and 1809 there were various plans for using the property as a barracks, archive or warehouse. A makeshift school was set up there in 1804, and in 1809 the property was sold in two parts.

Preserved building stock

The building erected between 1441 and 1443 at Bolongarostraße 137-139 ( ) is a remnant of the former living and utility rooms of the Antonite Order. The core of the building , which was erected between 1441 and 1443, is late Gothic ; in 1586 it was provided with a Renaissance core . The building is owned by the city of Frankfurt. It serves as a residential building and day care center for the elderly.

The building at Bolongarostraße 143 ( ) dates back to 1516 and represents an architectural transition from the late Gothic to the Renaissance. Accordingly, it shows the floor-to-ceiling, cross- bracing struts and counter struts between threshold and frame that are typical of the Central German area of distribution of the half-timbered structure . In the 19th century the building was structurally changed, shops were built on the ground floor. In 1994, the building was largely reconstructed and structurally restored to its state at the beginning of the 16th century.

The division of the complex into the aforementioned two buildings took place in 1896: Around a third of the medieval complex fell victim to the construction of an immeasurable apartment building on the plot of Bolongarostrasse 141 . The tithe barn in the garden of the Antoniterkloster was demolished in March 1966, although it was a listed building. A day care center with a playground was built in their place.
