history

The Storchenhof

Gothen was first documented in 1339 as "Chute" or "Chutem", also called "Chotum". The Slavic name is interpreted as "desire".

Since the 13th century, Gothen was, along with Mellenthin, a main estate of the noble von Neuenkirchen family based on the island of Usedom . After the Thirty Years' War , Gothen, like the other possessions of the now extinct von Neuenkirchen family, was bought from General Burchard Müller von der Lühne, who was in the Swedish service . Under the rule of Prussia , which had existed on Usedom since 1720, the property was allodified in 1747 . Then the Prussian war councilor Bleichert Peter von der Meyenn bought the entire property.

In 1817 the manor was acquired by forester Georg Bernhard von Bülow (1768-1854) and his brother Ernst Gottfried , who redeemed it from the bankruptcy estate of the Mellenthin estate for 45,000 thalers. Georg Bernhard von Bülow made the area available from his property for the Heringsdorfer church in the forest and had today's Villa Achterkerke built as a representative guest house next to the White Castle on Heringsdorfer Kulm in 1845 . In addition to Goths, the places Neuhof, Neukrug and Adelig- Ahlbeck belonged to the manor.

In 1851, while Bülow was still alive, the Gothen manor was sold to the manor Louis von Treskow (1799–1865), who lived in Wierzonka near Posen and who, according to the spa doctor, Dr. Schmige took new initiatives to expand the seaside resort in 1852. In 1856 Hermann Weichbrodt became the landowner of Gothen, who drained Gothensee at great expense in the second half of the 19th century in order to gain new pastureland. In 1890 Gothen came to the Heringsdorf community with Neuhof.

Located away from the tourist centers of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin , Gothen with its Storchenhof , which has not been home to a stork since 2004 , is now a stage destination, especially for hikers and cyclists. The manor house of the former Gothen manor was demolished in the 1980s.

Incorporation

Gothen was incorporated into the Seebad Heringsdorf community on July 1, 1950.
