The Gothic House Burgheßler is a listed building and is located in the Kirchweg von Burgheßler , today part of the municipality An der Poststraße , in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The free-standing secular building dates from 1493 to 1494 and is probably the successor to a medieval castle . Probably built as the noble seat of the von Heßler and Burkersroda families , they were enfeoffed in the fiefdom of June 27, 1494 by Georg von Sachsen with the village, including the castle seat and manor . In 1770 the noble family moved into a new castle and the property was only used as a shed (warehouse and storage building). A more detailed story is unknown.

description

The building is a two-storey quarry stone building with a partially basement and a rectangular floor plan of approx. 20 × 8 meters. Its fortress-like character with natural stone walls up to 1.6 m thick means that the building can be classified more as a permanent house . The oldest parts in the basement with a vaulted ceiling date back to the 12th or 13th century. There are rectangular slit windows on the lower floor and arched curtain windows on the upper floor . A keel arched portal is on the west wall. Like the windows on the upper floor, this is decorated with crossed bars, the windows have deep window niches inside. The upper floor originally consisted of two rooms, which were reached via a spiral staircase on the west wall. The coffered ceilings of the building date from the construction period. The baroque roof is designed as a steep half-hip roof with three bat dormers on each side of the roof .

Conversions from 1910 with drawn-in partition walls were removed again during renovations . In 1992 the roof and the facade were renovated. In 2008 the windows and the portal door were also renewed from a historical preservation point of view. A cultural association Gotisches Haus eV looked after the listed property. Organized sculpture symposia in recent years are reflected in numerous sculptures in the area. Since 2004 the house was used as the seat of the center for early music and for performances of early music. Visits with guided tours are possible by appointment.
