Gottfried Benad

Gottfried Johannes Benad (born March 15, 1932 in Dresden ) is a German physician and anesthesiologist . He taught for many years at the University of Rostock .

Life

Benad graduated from high school in Dresden-Plauen in 1950. He then studied medicine at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg until 1956 . 1956 received his doctorate in Halle for Dr. med. with a work on the "Brown-Pearce Tumor". From 1956 to 1962 he was initially a "compulsory assistant" at the Pharmacological Institute and then an assistant doctor at the anesthesia department of the surgical clinic at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, where he also received his qualification as an anesthesiologist in 1962. In 1967 he completed his habilitation at the University of Rostock in anesthesiology with the thesis investigations into the mechanism of action of succinylbischoline in humans . From 1963 to 1969 Benad was senior physician and head of the anesthesia department of the surgical clinic at the University of Rostock. From 1969 he was a professor for anesthesiology and director of the anesthesia department of the medicine department of the University of Rostock, in 1972 he was appointed full professor there. From 1981 he was director of the clinic for anesthesiology and intensive therapy at the University of Rostock.

After the turnaround in 1990, Benad was appointed university professor for anesthesiology and intensive therapy (C 4) at the same university in 1992. In 1998 he retired.

Benad has mainly researched muscle relaxants and cardio anesthesia and has published numerous articles, book chapters and books on them.

Positions in scientific self-government

From 1976 to 1983 he was deputy department director for medical care at the University of Rostock, between 1990 and 1996 dean of the medical department from 1990 to 1998 member of the senate and also of the council of the university.
