Gottfried Christian Reich

Gottfried Christian Reich (born July 19, 1769 at the Kaiserhammer hunting lodge ; † January 5, 1848 in Berlin ) was a German doctor and university professor .

Life

From 1788 Reich studied medicine at the universities of Jena and Erlangen . He received his doctorate in Erlangen with the dissertation Brevis epidemiae variolosae Arzbergensis anni 1791 delineatio 1793. A year later he was given an extraordinary professorship in medicine. Some translations into German fall during this period, for example a treatise on broken legs by John Aitkin .

His research on fever attracted particular attention . In 1799 this earned him a call to the Charité in Berlin, where he belonged to a commission alongside Christian Gottlieb Selle and Johann Ludwig Formey , which was commissioned by the Prussian government to examine the correctness of the fever theory. Reich's research was confirmed and he was granted a pension of 500 Thalers and the right to give medical lectures in Berlin . Reich was on 24 September 1800 the nickname Metrodorus IV. As a member ( Matriculation no. 1014 ) of the Leopoldina selected.

In 1809 he was appointed professor of medicine at the newly founded university , where he worked until his death.
