Gottfried Droste zu Vischering (* 1579 ; † December 3, 1652 in Münster ) was cathedral cantor and cathedral bursar in the duchy of Münster.

Life

Origin and family

As the son of the married couple Heidenreich Droste zu Vischering and Cornelia von Ketteler zu Hovestadt, Gottfried Droste zu Vischering came from one of the oldest and most important Westphalian noble families in the Principality of Münster , from which several Catholic officials and dignitaries as well as the hereditary corpses arose. Gottfried's brother Adolf Heinrich was provost of the cathedral, his brother Heidenreich (* 1580, † 1643) was an official in Horstmar and Ahaus.

Career

okeZu Vischering came into the possession of the prebend of Heinrich von Raesfeld on June 3, 1597 , which was awarded to him by the Turnar by swearing up the Droste, Hober, Ketteler and Wylich families. After five years of study with the Jesuits in Münster and Würzburg, he went to the Collegium Germanicum in Rome on May 1, 1599 and studied there until 1607. On August 16, 1616 he was ordained a subdeacon and shortly afterwards from the cathedral chapter to the Dombursar (responsible for the Finance) and elected on November 10, 1616. In January 1619 he accepted the option for the archdeaconate Stadtlohn after Dietrich von Plettenberg's departure . He became cathedral cantor on August 3, 1622 and received the archdeaconate of Albersloh. On February 13, 1629 he was seconded to the Pfennigkammer and in the following years Gottfried worked as Domsenior and Dombursar.
