Gottfried Koller

Gottfried Koller (born February 9, 1902 in Windsbach ; † July 17, 1959 in Saarbrücken ) was a German zoologist , biologist and university professor.

Life

Koller studied chemistry , geology , geography , botany and zoology at the Universities of Erlangen , Munich and Kiel . At the University of Kiel he received his doctorate in 1926. phil. with a work on chromatophores in North Sea shrimp . He continued his research as a research assistant in Kiel as part of his habilitation procedure, which he successfully completed in 1930. He then worked as an assistant at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1934 to 1937 he was a full professor at Shanghai University . In 1937 he switched to an extraordinary professorship at the University of Kiel. From 1941 to 1949 he was a full professor of zoology at the German University in Prague . From 1949 until his untimely death in 1959 he was a full professor at the University of Saarbrücken , and was its prorector from 1951 to 1956.

Koller researched and published mainly on comparative physiology, in particular on the sense of sight, color change and nutritional physiology.
