Gottfried Kunz

Gottfried Kunz (born December 12, 1859 in Zauggenried ; † January 5, 1930 in Bern , reformed , resident in Diemtigen ) was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

biography

Gottfried Kunz was born on December 12, 1859 in Zauggenried as the son of the schoolmaster Jakob Kunz. After Gottfried Kunz had completed the teachers' seminar in Münchenbuchsee between 1875 and 1878 , he was initially employed as a primary school teacher in Büren an der Aare from 1878 . As a result, he began studying law at the University of Bern between 1881 and 1884 . After acquiring his notary's license, Kunz first ran a notary's office from 1885, and finally a law firm in Biel from 1890 .

He was married to Hortense, the daughter of the representative of a Bohemian textile company Adolf Conrad from Diesse . Gottfried Kunz died on January 5, 1930 at the age of almost 70 in Bern.

Political career

The free-spirited politician Kunz represented his party between 1904 and 1912 as finance director in the Bern government council . He was also a member of the Council of States from 1907 to 1919 , which he chaired from December 2, 1912 to December 1, 1913.

In addition, Kunz has held directorships at various industrial companies and railways, such as the Bern power plants and the Swiss National Bank . He also held office between 1912 and 1928 as President of the Bernese Alpine Railway Company Bern – Lötschberg – Simplon (BLS).

Gottfried Kunz distinguished himself primarily as a Bernese railway politician. He was involved in founding the Berner Alpenbahn-Gesellschaft and supported the Lötschbergbahn project by securing funding. The state's increased influence on the electricity industry also fell during his tenure .
