Diemtigen is a municipality in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
Diemtigen is a so-called mixed community . An Evangelical Reformed parish also exists under the same name .
geography
Diemtigen is located in the Bernese Oberland in the Alps . The places Oey and Diemtigen are located at the foot of the Diemtigtal , which essentially comprises the municipality. Oey lies at the confluence of the Chirel and the Simme . The community consists of the eight farmers Oey, Diemtigen, Bächlen, Horboden (from Middle High German horb / hor " swamp , moorland "), Riedern, Entschwil, Zwischenflüh and Schwenden.
The neighboring communities starting from the north in a clockwise direction are Erlenbach im Simmental , Wimmis , Reichenbach im Kandertal , Frutigen , Adelboden , St. Stephan , Zweisimmen , Boltigen , Oberwil im Simmental and Därstetten .

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 71.6%, BDP 7.9%, SP 5.3%, glp 3.8%, EDU 2.9%, GPS 2.5%, FDP 2.4 %, EVP 1.7%, CVP 0.6%.
history
The first documentary mention of Diemtigen dates from 1257 as Diemtingen . In 1439 the city of Bern acquired jurisdiction over Diemtigen.
Diemtigen's coat of arms was designed as early as 1924. However, it was not officially accepted by the municipality until 1945.
At the end of August 2005, Diemtigen and the Diemtigtal were hit by severe flooding, particularly the village of Oey. This flood caused damage of around three billion Swiss francs .
