The Diemtigtal is a side valley of the Simmental in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It essentially coincides with the area of the municipality of Diemtigen .

geography

The Diemtigtal is traversed by the Fildrich , which joins the Chirel in the lower valley area . This flows into the Simme near Oey in the Diemtigen municipality .

On the right, the south-eastern side of the Diemtigtal is sneezing chain ( Fromberghorn to Gsür ) limited; on the left, northwest side is the chain with gymnastics and Niderhorn . In the south-west, Seehore , Spillgerte ( 2476  m above sea level, the highest mountain in the region) and Rauflihorn form the upper end of the valley. The Meniggrat-Stand chain separates the main valley from the left Meniggrund side valley (flowed through by Menigbach / Narebach) and the Wiriehore is located between the main valley and the right side valley Riedere (flowed through by the Chirel).

The most important villages in the valley are from top to bottom: Grimmialp, Schwenden, Meniggrund (in the left side valley of the Narebach), Zwischenflüh, Entschwil (on the slope on the right side of the valley), Riedern, Horben, Bächlen, Diemtigen (on the slope on the left side of the valley ) and Oey. The Grimmialp plays an essential role in the life and work of Albert Schweitzer ; especially in the correspondence between Schweitzer and his future wife Helene Bresslau from 1902 to 1912, published by his daughter, he often mentions the quiet days he spent there and how much of his writing workload he had here.

traffic

The Diemtigtal is accessed via a road from the Simmental. A post bus line (Oey – Grimmialp) forms the connection to the public transport network.

Economy, nature and tourism

The Diemtigtal Regional Nature Park has existed in the Diemtigen community since 2009 .

In March 2018, the construction of a nature park cheese dairy began and Estavayer Lait invested in a milk filling plant together with the Migros Aare cooperative. Around 90 percent of the cheese is said to be exported.
