Spillgerte

The Spillgerte (also spelled Spillgerten ) is a mountain between the Simmental and the Diemtigtal in the Bernese Oberland . The name Spillgerte is of Alemannic origin and means spindle rod .

location

The Spillgerte dominates the view to the north from the Obersimmental ; From the Diemtigtal , the pointed shape of the main summit is particularly striking. Together with the Rothorn and some secondary peaks, the Spillgerte forms a massif that is bounded in the south by the Färmeltal (a side valley of the Simmental), in the west by the Simmental and in the north-east by Alpetli, Wildgrimmi and Grimmi (three Alps at the top in the Diemtigtal). The Scheidegg in the northwest and the Grimmifurggi in the east form two passages between the Simmental and the Diemtigtal that can be walked on.

summit

The main peak is the Hinderi Spillgerte at 2,476 m . Approx. Another distinctive peak lies 900 m in a west-northwest direction, the 2253 m high Vorderi Spillgerte .

The Hinderi Spillgerte, which is atypical for a pre-Alpine summit, can only be climbed over longer climbing routes ( III degree in the partly fragile rock). The Vorderi Spillgerte can be reached in a demanding mountain hike over unpaved terrain.
