The Turnen (also spelled Turne ) is a mountain between the Simmental and Diemtigtal in the Bernese Oberland .
location
The gymnastics is on the ridge that separates the Untersimmental (in the north) from the Diemtigtal (in the south). At 2079.2 m, it is the highest peak on the ridge just before the Niderhorn ( 2077.6 m ). Together with the Pfaffen ( 1943 m ) and Abendberg ( 1851.5 m ) it forms the eastern end of the ridge.
The summit is in the area of the municipality of Erlenbach ; However, it is closer to the Simmental village of Därstetten , whose municipal area extends on the northwest flank to just below the summit. In the south are the Meniggrund (a side valley of the Diemtigtal) and the village of Zwischenflüh ( Diemtigen municipality ).
summit
The summit is flat, covered with grass and can be reached by easy mountain hike. The north flank, however, drops off steeply and is dominated by three rocky basins (Chörbli, Chlyne Chorb and Grosse Chorb).
