Brünen is a district of the city of Hamminkeln in the Wesel district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The hamlets of Havelich and Marienthal belong to Brünen .

location

Brünen is located southeast of Hamminkeln at an altitude between 35 and 50  m above sea level. NHN , which in the Rhineland can already be described as a higher location . The federal road 70 , the state roads 1 and 480 and the district road 26 meet in the vicinity .

history

The first written mention of Brno goes back to the 9th century. The first stone church was built in the 13th century. In the 18th century, the upper peasantry as well as the Dahlhaus and Steingründer peasantry are mentioned in sub-sections of the Brün property register .

On January 1, 1975, Brünen became part of the municipality of Hamminkeln in the course of the second reorganization program, which was elevated to a town in 1995.

Place name

The place name Brünen , derived from the Celtic, means something like high place . Other interpretations speak of the settlement of Bruno .

Meaning: The coat of arms was adopted on May 12, 1967. The red bar comes from the coat of arms of the Principality of Münster to which Brünen belonged until the 13th century. The lily reel comes from the coat of arms of the Duchy of Kleve to which the place belonged until 1806.
