history

Wertherbruch used to have close ties to the city of Werth , which has belonged to Isselburg since 1975. In 1296, work began on draining the Werther Bruch ; With the associated cultivation of the soil, the Bruchhufendorf Wertherbruch could emerge. Today's church had a previous building that was built after 1318. The current late Gothic church was built between 1460 and 1480. In 1567 Wertherbruch converted to the Reformed Confession and in 1817 the community became Protestant. The place used to belong to the Duchy of Kleve , most recently the formerly independent municipality was part of the Haldern office , Rees district .

On January 1, 1975, Wertherbruch became part of the Hamminkeln municipality as part of the second reorganization program , which was elevated to a town in 1995.

Place name
