history
Ringberg belonged to the beginning of the 19th century to the Duchy of Cleves , and was as a sub-rule to the Office Orsoy assigned. The "Freedom Ringberg" included the farming communities Ringberg and Marienthal and the Ringberg Castle .
In 1805 Prussia ceded the right bank of the Duchy to Napoleon . In 1806 the Duchy of Kleve was merged with the Duchy of Berg to form the new Grand Duchy of Berg , to which Ringenberg now belonged. After the introduction of the French administrative system, Ringenberg became the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name , which belonged to the department of the Rhine . At the end of 1810 , Napoleon annexed the northern part of the Grand Duchy, and in 1811 the canton of Ringenberg was first assigned to the French department of Oberijssel and then to the department of Lippe . Thus, Ringenberg was part of the French Empire until the end of 1813 .
Under the Prussian administration that followed, Ringenberg was the seat of the mayor's office of the same name (renamed to Amt in 1927 ), to which the communities Bislich , Diersfordt , Flüren , Hamminkeln and Ringenberg belonged.
On January 1, 1975, the previously independent municipality of Ringenberg became part of the municipality of Hamminkeln as part of the second reorganization program , which was elevated to town in 1995.
