Gottfried Pastor (born February 23, 1809 in Burtscheid , † December 20, 1899 in Aachen ) was a German wool manufacturer and secret councilor .

Live and act

The son of the cloth manufacturer Konrad Gotthard Pastor (1769–1830) and Charlotte Einütz (1772–1843) completed training as cloth manufacturers in their father's company. He then gained practical experience in the worsted yarn factory of his cousin Konrad Gustav Pastor in Verviers . Returning to Aachen, he settled down as a wool merchant and in 1856 took over a cloth factory in Augustastraße in Aachen, which was owned by the Pastor family, and expanded it extensively into a wool spinning mill. It remained in family ownership until 1908, after which it was taken over by the “Katz & Langstadt” cloth factory, which continued to run it as “Tuchfabrik Neuwerk GmbH”. Today the remaining buildings of the former cloth factory Pastor / Neuwerk are under monument protection and are part of the "Rhenish industrial culture".

In addition to his professional commitment, Pastor devoted a large part of his time to public and voluntary activities. In 1867 he was one of the co-founders of the " Evangelical Hospital Association for Aachen and Burtscheid ", the sponsor of the Luisenhospital in Aachen , of which he was chairman for many years. Furthermore, Pastor was the first president of the former working class in Aachen, who was in office for over 30 years. After the death of his relative Philipp Heinrich Pastor , he also took over his position as a member of the board of the Aachen Chamber of Commerce and for a long time worked as a commercial judge. He was also elected several times to the city council.

He was also a member of the supervisory board or board of directors of Rheinisch-Westfälischer Lloyd, Rheinisch-Westfälische Rückversicherung Mönchengladbach , from 1876 of Aachen-Leipziger Versicherungs-AG, the Aachen Association for the Promotion of Labor , the Kölnische Wechsler- und Kommissionsbank, the limited partnership Kupferberg und Co as well as the bottle factory Kreuznacher Glashütte AG.

Gottfried Pastor was married to Laurencine Rouy (1819-1905), born on the Antilles island of Guadeloupe , with whom he had seven sons and two daughters. On December 19, 1899, and one day before his death, the couple received the anniversary medal on the commemoration day of the diamond wedding . His wool factory was divided among several sons, all of whom were also members of the Prussian Landwehr . His eldest son Emil Gottfried Pastor (1843–1909) was elected to succeed his father in most of the offices that he had already held.

Gottfried Pastor found his final resting place on Westfriedhof II in Aachen.
