Gottfried Russ

Johann Gottfried Russ (born March 18, 1807 in Wiesbaden , † September 28, 1873 in Biebrich ) was a German businessman and politician ( Nassau Progressive Party , German Liberal Party ).

Life

Russ was the son of the businessman and member of the state parliament Friedrich Russ (born October 3, 1777 in Windesheim, † July 29, 1844 in Wiesbaden) and his wife Anna Maria née Erkel. He attended the de Laspéesche Institute, the Friedrichschule and the pedagogy in Wiesbaden. Then he did a commercial apprenticeship in Mainz. He then spent several years in Holland, Belgium, France and Switzerland. After his return he lived as a merchant in Biebrich. From 1865 to 1873 he was a member and until 1871 secretary of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Commerce .

politics

In 1848 he was a member of the association for "Freedom, Law and Order". In 1852 he was elected to the First Chamber of the Estates of the Duchy of Nassau in a by-election for Carl Remigius Fresenius (who had not accepted the election) for the group of tradespeople . This election has been declared invalid. From 1858 to 1864 and again in 1865 (second election) until the end of the duchy in 1866, he was elected to the second chamber of the estates for the Nassau Progressive Party in constituency XXIV ( Wiesbaden office ). After the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau by Prussia , he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency of Wiesbaden 3 and the German Liberal Party from 1867 to 1870 .
