Gottfried Stiehler

Gottfried Stiehler (born July 23, 1924 in Langebrück ; † December 3, 2007 ) was a German philosopher .

Stiehler studied philosophy and received his doctorate in 1956 with a thesis on the mathematician and natural scientist Gabriel Wagner (1660-1717). In 1964 he qualified as a professor, in 1965 he was appointed professor for the history of philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1972 to 1988 he headed the scientific advisory board for philosophy at the GDR university ministry. From 1981 to 1989 he was head of the historical materialism department at the Marxist-Leninist Philosophy section at Humboldt University.

Stiehler died in December 2007 at the age of 83.
