Gottfried Thomasius (* 1660 in Leipzig , † May 10, 1746 in Nuremberg ) was a German physician and senior of the Nuremberg Medical College founded in 1731.

Life

Gottfried Thomasius was a son from the first marriage of the Saxon pedagogue, philologist and philosopher Jakob Thomasius .

Thomasius studied at the University of Leipzig and obtained the academic degree of Magister in 1681 . In 1689 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . In 1691 he became a citizen of the city of Nuremberg and worked here as a doctor and later also as a senior of the Nuremberg Medical College founded in 1731.

He was a bibliophile and owned an extensive and valuable library, for which Georg Wolfgang Panzer wrote a three-volume Latin catalog with 27,251 numbers.

On May 12, 1692 Gottfried Thomasius with the academic surname Vindicianus was registered under the registration number. 189 accepted as a member of the Leopoldina .

The lawyer and philosopher Christian Thomasius was his half-brother.
