Career

Voigt studied Protestant theology in  Leipzig  . He received his doctorate in 1942 with a thesis on Luther's Christmas sermon - theology and proclamation . From 1950 to 1958 Voigt headed the seminary in Lückendorf as director of studies. In 1958 he moved to the St. Pauli Prediger College in Leipzig as director of studies and at the same time became a lecturer at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig , where he taught until his retirement in 1979.

Beyond the borders of the GDR , Voigt was best known for his volumes with homiletic interpretations of the sermon texts, which pastors serve as a basis for preparing for sermons.

His appointment to a professorship at a state university in the GDR was refused in the responsible political bodies by the decision-makers of the SED despite multiple attempts by the faculties in Leipzig, Greifswald and Jena. Voigt turned down two calls to West German universities (1960 to Munich, 1962 to Göttingen) because he did not consider it justifiable in the situation at the time to leave the Christians of the GDR behind. Only after German reunification was Voigt awarded the title of professor on December 10, 1991 by the State Minister for Science and Art of the Free State of Saxony .
