Gottfried von Hanau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gottfried von Hanau (* after 1320; † after October 6, 1372 ), usually called "Götz", was Commander of the Teutonic Order .

family

Gottfried von Hanau was the fifth son of Ulrich II. Von Hanau (* approx. 1280/1288; † 1346) and Agnes von Hohenlohe (* before 1295; † November 29, 1346), daughter of Kraft I. von Hohenlohe . His year of birth is unknown. However, since the year of birth of his next older brother, Ludwig von Hanau , can be assumed to be around 1320, Gottfried was probably born between 1320 and 1325.

Because of the primogeniture practiced in the family , only his eldest brother, Ulrich III, followed. (* 1310; † 1369/70), father in the government of Hanau. The other sons of Ulrich II therefore had to be cared for in a different way, in line with their status, for which a spiritual career offered itself. This also included entry into the Teutonic Order.

On October 6, 1372, his name was mentioned for the last time in a document.
