Gottfried von Lehnsfeld

Gottfried von Lehnsfeld (born January 10, 1664 in Köslin , Western Pomerania , † December 24, 1701 in Vienna ), also Lehmann , was an officer in the imperial army.

Life

Lehnsfeld had served as an officer in the Imperial Army in Vienna and in 1701 was responsible for the preventive detention of Prince Rákóczi , who was in prison in Wiener Neustadt for high treason . Lehnsfeld was then bribed with a promised sum of money of 20,000 guilders and ensured that Rákóczi was able to escape from custody on November 24, 1701 in the disguise of a dragoons .

Lehnsfeld was therefore beheaded on December 24, 1701 on a public market square in Vienna . The torso of his body was quartered , and as a deterrent, the four chopped off body parts were then hung and displayed on the highways of Vienna.
