Gottfried von Merveldt (* in the 15th century; † August 10, 1552 ) was canon in Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Gottfried von Merveldt came from the Westphalian noble family von Merveldt , from which numerous well-known personalities emerged. He was the son of Johann von Merveldt and his wife Elsabe Ketteler zu Neuassen . She was the sister of Paderborn Cathedral Provost Gisbert Ketteler. Gottfried's sister Petronella was married to Arnd von Raesfeld zu Hameren, of whose sons Gottfried was dean and important clergyman, Bernhard von Raesfeld was prince-bishop of Munster and Bitter von Raesfeld was canon of Munster.

Act

In 1512 Gottfried was admitted to the cathedral chapter after the Pope had ordered on December 2, 1512 to transfer the canon of the late Canon Bernhard von Merveldt to him. Johannes Ingenwinkel had received this on November 20, 1510, who, however, waived it for a short time and received an annuity from Gottfried on April 22, 1515 for thirty gold guilders a year . On October 2, 1514 he became canon in Münster. After the death of Canon Hermann von Düngelen, he received on August 6, 1540 the episcopal promise to the archdeaconate Warendorf. He was also owner of obedience Sommersell . His unanimous election as provost of the old cathedral in Münster fell on January 21, 1548.

In 1534 Gottfried Margaretha zum Rodde is said to have married, with whose mother he fled to Coesfeld during the siege of Münster by the Anabaptists . There were several children from the marriage, including the son Nicolaus.
