Gottlieb Ludwig Studer

Gottlieb Ludwig Studer (born January 18, 1801 in Bern ; † October 11, 1889 there ) was a Swiss theologian.

life and work

Gottlieb Studer was born in 1801 as the son of the theologian and natural scientist Samuel Studer . He studied in Halle, Göttingen, Jena and Bern and passed his theological state examination in Bern. In 1819 he was one of the founders of the Swiss Zofinger Association . In 1829 he became a full professor of antiquity at the Bern Academy , when the theological faculty was replaced in 1834, he was no longer elected professor. In 1835 he became a private lecturer in Old Testament exegesis , in 1850 he received an extraordinary professorship and in 1856 he was appointed full professor. 1854–1858 and 1866–1869 he was dean and 1864–1865 rector of the University of Bern . From 1878 he was retired honorary professor.

Gottlieb Studer is the brother of the geologist Bernhard Studer and the father of the zoologist Theophil Studer .
