Gottlob Wilhelm Müller (born September 18, 1790 Memleben ; † February 17, 1875 Gross Salza ) was a German Protestant theologian and educator.

Life

After attending the local school, Müller began studying theology in Wittenberg in 1811 , which he completed in 1813 with a doctorate. In 1814 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he began studying philology, which he also completed a year later with a doctorate. As a result, Müller took up a job as a teacher and vice principal at the Latin School in Torgau . From 1820 to 1843 he was its rector. Thanks to his commitment, the school was converted into a progressive grammar school in 1825; in this context, Müller received the title of professor. In 1843 he was appointed rector of the education department at the monastery of Our Dear Women in Magdeburg by a ministerial resolution . He replaced Karl Zerrenner in office on the instructions of the Magdeburg government . In 1856 King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia appointed Müller provost of the monastery, which was contrary to the previous tradition, according to which the election was made by the convent. Müller held this office until 1867 when he retired.

During his years as rector and provost, the education department underwent extensive structural changes (expansion of the alumnate, gym). As a result, the number of students skyrocketed.

Müller received several state medals as an award. He remained unmarried throughout his life.
