Govindasamy Saravanan

Govindasamy Saravanan (born May 15, 1970 ) is a former Malaysian walker .

In 1995 he won bronze in the 20,000 m walking at the Asian Athletics Championships in Jakarta.

In 1997 he won the Southeast Asian Games in Jakarta in a 50 km walk . Over the same distance, he celebrated his greatest success the following year when he won the first gold medal in track and field in the history of these games for Malaysia at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . However, he benefited from the fact that the by far leading Neeseeländer Craig Barrett collapsed dehydrated shortly before the finish and had to receive medical attention.

In 2001 he won another 50 km walk at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur .
