Goze Deltschew [ ˈɡɔtsɛ ˈdɛɫtʃɛf ] ( Bulgarian Гоце Делчев ) is a town and administrative center of a municipality of the same name in the southwest Bulgarian Oblast Blagoevgrad with over 18,000 inhabitants.

The city was named after the revolutionary and freedom fighter Goze Deltschew ; it used to be called Newrokop (Greek: Νευροκόπι).

location

The city lies in the valley of the Mesta River , which is enclosed between the Pirin and Rhodope Mountains . The city is located around 200 km south of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and around 90 km east of the district capital Blagoevgrad . The Bulgarian-Greek border crossing Ilinden-Exochi is located approx. 20 km south of the city.

In the 2nd century BC The Roman city ​​of Nicopolis ad Nestum , from which the old name of the city of Newrokop was derived , was located nearby .

Around 837 the region came under Bulgarian rule.

In 2001 the clinic for endocrine surgery "Signs of Hope" (Bulgarian Символ на надеждата) was opened with the support of the Federation of Free Evangelical Churches in Germany . Since then, a day care center for the disabled and an outpatient care service have been added.

A local factory makes toy inserts for surprise eggs.
