Gozzo von Krems (* in the 13th century; † around 1291 in Zwettl ) was the city ​​judge and builder of the Gozzoburg in Krems and land clerk of Upper Austria .

Life

Gozzo came from the northern Weinviertel and was city judge of Krems several times between 1246 and 1282. As a wealthy citizen, he repeatedly acquired positions such as that of key officer , the director of the customs and toll office. He became a major supporter of Ottokar's rule in Austria and one of the country's most powerful men.

In 1270 Gozzo comes camerae (Kammergraf) was called, in 1273 he held the title of officialis domini Regis Bohemiae in Anaso , i.e. agent or bailiff of the King of Bohemia for Austria over the Enns . He was the builder of the Gozzoburg, which was built between 1250 and 1275.

Even after the defeat of Ottokar , Gozzo was able to retain his position under Rudolf von Habsburg and remained responsible as land clerk for the financial administration of Austria on the Enns. In 1288 Gozzo entered the Cistercian order and became a monk in Zwettl Abbey . In a deed of May 17, 1292, in which Gozzo's son Irnfried confirmed a gift from his father, Gozzo appears to have already died.
