The Gräf / Steyr LU 200 M11 is originally a high-floor city bus that was originally used mainly in Vienna by Wiener Stadtwerke ( Wiener Linien ) . The type was produced in the years 1978–1992 by the Austrian companies Gräf & Stift (chassis) and Steyr (body).

history

In the course of the modernization of the outdated bus fleet at the end of the 1970s, the companies ÖAF Gräf & Stift and Steyr Daimler Puch were commissioned to design a new city bus for Viennese city traffic. The DDH 200 double-decker buses, which were delivered as early as 1976, specified the technology and design, with the new LU 200 M11 partly corresponding to the VÖV standard bus developed in Germany at the end of the 1960s (here the MAN SL 200 ). It was the first buses of Vienna, with a series - six cylinder - Otto engine using only liquid were traveling. The vehicles used previously had diesel engines and were partially adapted to run on a diesel / liquid gas mixture. Even then, people were aware that the sole use of liquefied gas could significantly reduce emissions of soot and carbon monoxide (CO).

On April 3, 1978, the first LU 200 M11 car went into service. In the years that followed, these buses in Vienna gradually replaced the aging cars of the TS - U10, U7-OSU and OSU 192 series. Between 1978 and 1992, 345 units of this type were produced, with more powerful engines with a slightly larger displacement being installed from year of construction 1988/1989 . From this year of construction, the cars were also equipped with a catalytic converter as standard . The previously built cars have been retrofitted.

For years the LU 200 M11 dominated the Viennese cityscape. Between 1984 and 1992 there was even a single-type normal bus operation in Vienna. From 1992 the old LU 200 M11s were replaced by new low-floor buses . The end of the LU-200 era came on May 16, 2007 in the course of the advanced delivery of the latest MAN Lion’s City low-floor bus series .

A number of the buses were used by foreign companies after their decommissioning in Vienna. B. in Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg).
