Green lung

As green lungs are urban contiguous green areas and parks colloquially referred to, which have a special recreational value for the city dwellers. The use of the word lung could symbolize the city's respiratory system. In many large cities there are so-called leisure and recreation areas. The most famous are the Central Park in New York City , Hyde Park in London , the English Garden in Munich , the Serra de Collserola in Barcelona, among many others. The term is also used regularly in city ​​guides , descriptions and brochures.

From a global perspective, the great forests of the Amazon basin or the taiga are known as the “green lungs of the earth”.
