The Grünen (also Grüene ) is a right tributary of the Emme in the Swiss canton of Bern . It drains 81.1 square kilometers of the lower Emmental and is 20.3 kilometers long with its longest source stream, the Hornbach . The name is derived from Grien , which means something like gravel or rubble. In addition, the green wash gold carries with it.

The Greens arise from the confluence of their right upper reaches Hornbach and their left upper reaches Churzeneibach at about 740 m near Wasen in the Emmental in the municipality of Sumiswald . It flows in two small arcs in a south-westerly direction and flows into the Emme at Ramsei in the municipality of Lützelflüh . Its main tributaries are the Griesbach near Sumiswald and the Dürrbach near Grünenmatt .
