Grüningen is a district of Greußen in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .
geography
Grüningen is located in the valley of the Helbe , east of the city of Greussen. The district is located in the flat, undulating, very fertile and forest-poor landscape in the Thuringian Basin . The Hainleite mountain range runs ten kilometers to the north .
history
The first documents about the first mention of the village were archived as early as 780–817. In the district of Grüningen there was a castle on the site of the castle . The hill of this castle with the current buildings was and will be surrounded by the watercourse of the Helbe. In the 13th century, lords of Grüningen were named in documents who were certainly owners of the moated castle . Grüningen Castle was built on the medieval complex, which only consisted of ramparts and ditches as well as wall remnants, and today is occupied by a nursing home and kindergarten. The Church of St. Petri was not completed until the 19th century. Grüningen belonged to the Electoral Saxon office of Weißensee until 1815 .
