The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Petri is in the street Am Kirchberg von Grüningen , a district of Greußen in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia . St. Peter is part of the parish Grüningen Regional Municipality Straußfurt in Kirchenkreis Eisleben-Sömmerda the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The hall church was built in 1823/24. The nave is built from rubble stones and covered with a mansard roof. The square, recessed church tower in the west, also made of quarry stone, dates from 1716. It has a hood crowned by a lantern . The tomb for Caspar von Kutzleben is on the east side . In addition to the church furnishings from the construction period, there is a portrait of Mary from a former carved altar , which was created around 1470/80. A medallion with a small picture of Sophie is set in the wall of the church. It bears the text: “Sophie von Kühn, b. March 17, 1782, died March 19, 1797 at Grüningen Castle . She was the bride of the poet Friedrich von Hardenberg . "

The organ with 21 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1828 by Johann Christoph Damm and Johann Heinrich Hartung.
