Guazapares is a municipality with about 9,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of ​​1825.9 km². The largest place in the municipality and since 1964 the administrative seat is Témoris .

geography

The municipality of Guazapares is located in the southwest of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 200  m and 2800  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental and is located in the hydrological region Sinaloa and drains over the Río Fuerte into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality is determined by 93% rhyolite tuff with 4% limestone and 3% basalt ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are the Regosol (46%), Phaeozem (35%) and Leptosol (15%). About 78% of the municipality are forested, 20% are used as pasture land.

The municipality borders the Municipios Urique , Maguarichi , Uruachi and Chínipas as well as the state of Sinaloa .

In the 2010 census, 8,998 people were counted in 2103 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 2,605 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 2,425 speakers of the Tarahumara language . 18 percent of the population were illiterate. 3149 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 81% were men and 2% were unemployed. A good 40 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
